The year 2010 marked the 50th Independence anniversary for many African countries, some may have gotten their independence in the late 50s,in all cases the fight for freedom from the grip of colonialism was not easy. It was achieved through , sacrifices, and rebellions. When independence arrived at the beginning of the 60’s African artists took part in the celebration composing and writing music which reflected the spirit of the moment. On today’s show I feature on the first set music Africans danced to in welcoming the hour of independence.
