In a country where many singers are griots, Salif Keita is a singer with a unique voice, and he is not a griot. He is a direct descendant of the founder of the Mali Empire, the great Soundiata Keita, thus a royalty. He was born an albino and contrary to the belief in his mandinka culture that albinos are a sign of bad luck, Salif is a living proof to contradict this belief. He is the most remarkable and hugely popular Albino singer in the world with a career spanning 40 years. He is world renowned for his soaring vocals and his emotionally-fueled songs.
